Surivors of Sexual Abuse and Rape Support Group

SOAR is an on-going, therapist-facilitated support group for adult, female survivors of sexual assault. The group setting provides a safe place for women to come together and begin to heal following the trauma of rape. Through sharing of their experiences, the women discover they are not alone in their emotional pain. Acceptance, support, and validation form the foundation of this group.

THE MEN'S GROUP

YWCA Rape Crisis Center Offers Men’s Support Group

BERGEN COUNTY– The YWCA of Bergen County Rape Crisis Center will be offering a free and confidential, therapist-facilitated support group for adult men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse. The Men’s Group, which is scheduled to begin this spring, will be based in central Bergen County and run for eight to ten weeks. Anyone interested in participating should call 201-487-2227 for additional information.

The YWCA of Bergen County Rape Crisis Center offers assistance to anyone who has experienced sexual violence, whether it happened hours or years ago. The center provides a free and confidential 24/7 hotline to survivors of sexual abuse/assault, their family and friends. Confidential Sexual Violence Advocates are available to provide information and referrals, short-term crisis intervention and medical and legal accompaniments to hospital emergency rooms, medical clinics, police departments, law enforcement agencies, and legal proceedings.

In addition, the center’s Community Training and Education program provides a speakers bureau to address schools, professional and community groups on issues surrounding sexual abuse/assault. If you or anyone you know has been affected by sexual violence, help is available 24/7 at 201-487-2227.

Description: Adult survivors of sexual assault follow a 12 week format that begins with an understanding of the dynamics of trauma and continues on to explore survivors’ emotional blocks, support systems, self-esteem, and finally empowerment. Group members will process awareness of healthy coping mechanisms and self care that lead to a healing plan and healthy emotional life.
