NJCASA Government and Policy Affairs Advocacy Intern

The Government and Policy Affairs unit advocates for sexual violence survivor-friendly policies and legislation through legislative and administrative advocacy, building relationships with allied organizations, and education.

General duties:
A Government and Policy Affairs Advocacy Intern would report to the Director of Government and Policy.  Duties would include:

  • Develop, organize, and maintain a thriving and effective NJCASA Advocacy Network
  • Use the CapWiz database to research and post new legislation, create e-mail alerts, and maintain the NJCASA Advocacy Network

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Law student (The Director of Government and Policy Affairs is a licensed attorney) or graduate student in public policy, public health, political science, or other relevant field
  • Undergraduate students in their Junior year or higher are also encouraged to apply
  • Interest and dedication to working in the field of advocacy
  • Interest in the field of violence against women and sexual violence
  • Excellent organizational and research skills

Other internship details:

  • Flexible part-time schedules are available
  • All internships are unpaid
  • We are interested in students who are able to receive credit for their internship or otherwise fulfill a program requirement
  • Students who do not need to fulfill a requirement, but are committed to advocacy and have a strong interest in violence against women and sexual violence are encouraged to apply
  • Unfortunately, we are not accessible by public transportation and Interns must be able to provide their own transportation

NJCASA Non-Profit Management Intern

General duties:
A Non-Profit Management Intern would report to the Executive Director.  Duties would include:

  • Assist the Executive Director in daily non-profit management tasks
  • Conduct research on issues around sexual violence as needed by the Executive Director
  • Work on projects regarding the Board of Trustees, organizational development, human resources, program development, and other related projects
  • Learn about issues related to leading and managing a not-for-profit

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate students in a Non-Profit Management degree program
  • Graduate students who are in a M.S.W. program with a  concentration in Non-Profit and Public Management, or other related concentration
  • Excellent organizational and research skills
  • Interest in the field of violence against women and sexual violence

JOB TITLE:   Creative Arts Therapist

HOURS OF WORK:   30 hours per week

Purpose:  To provide coordinated, comprehensive, holistic direct services to ACWC clients.
 
Duties:         

Child / client intake and assessment interviews.           
Create comprehensive client treatment plans and review / revise as necessary.                     
Complete client evaluations and discharge summaries.
Conduct individual and /or group therapy sessions with children.                           
Maintain continuous communication with supervisor, colleagues and clients.
Provide client advocacy and referral services as needed. 
Recordkeeping

  • Appropriate and accurate use and timely submission of all Agency management and client related forms.
  • Professional maintenance of assigned client files subject to annual audit.                           
  • Provide weekly service summary along with monthly, quarterly and annual statistical and  narrative reports, and additional reports as required.

Other as assigned (to include, but not limited to):

  • Attendance at Agency meetings as needed / required.                                                               
  • Attendance at trainings as needed / required.
  • Facilitation of community presentations as assigned.
  • Professional representation of ACWC within community forums as designated.

Accountability:   The Creative Arts Therapist is responsible to the Program Supervisor / Associate Director` and the client population for the timely, professional and effective performance of all job duties.

Qualifications:    

1) Masters Degree creative arts therapy – art, music, drama, or dance / movement therapy.

2) Board certified or certification eligible.

3) Experience in working individually with the identified client population or experience with a similar population that is transferable.  Experience with children is preferred.

4) Bi-lingual preferred.

5) Ability to network with professionals within and outside of the Agency on behalf of clients.

6) Demonstrated sensitivity to women’s issues and victim / perpetrator issues.

7) Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clients and co-workers.

8)Valid NJ Driver’s License.

Bergen County Rape Crisis Center

JOB TITLE:                           Rape Crisis Center Advocate

 

CLASSIFICATION:             Non Exempt/ Full Time

 

HOURS OF WORK:    30 hours per week

(additional hours required including some weekends,weekday afternoons and evenings, over nights for after hour hotline coverage and in-person responses based on need of the survivors)

 

Responsibilities

Provide direct services to survivors of sexual assault, their families and significant others on the hotline, in-person for crisis intervention and accompaniments at hospitals, prosecutor’s office, police stations, the court and at the RCC office.

Provide assistance to survivors and significant others during the Sexual Assault Response Team activation.

Provide educational presentations regarding sexual abuse and sexual violence, consent and communication and prevention to middle/high schools, college and community settings.

Provide accurate documentation of client services and also meet reporting obligations as required by the organization

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or related experience area preferred
  • Knowledgeable of the dynamics of sexual violence – Must complete or have completed a mandatory 40 plus hours sexual violence training
  • Comfortable working with individuals in distress and with those who experienced sexual assault or those connected to a sexual assault survivor.
  • 1-3 years experience in advocacy, crisis intervention, community organizing and/or counseling skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Good organization, math and statistical tracking skills.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Must be able to travel up to 20%, generally within Bergen County.  Must be able to arrive within 1 hour at accompaniment location.

Job Description: Domestic Violence Liason- Full Time

180 Turning Lives Around has a full-time position available for a Domestic Violence Liaison.

Bachelors Degree and 5 years experience in DV services or Masters Degree and 3 years experience in DV services required.  DVS certification or in the process of receiving certification, LCSW or LPC preferred. 

Position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge of the dynamics of DV, advocacy, courts, welfare, and child welfare.  Successful candidate will also be responsible for systems collaboration and accessing resources and will need strong communication, problem solving, and advocacy networking skills.  Counseling and a high degree of confidentiality is a requirement for this position.

Bilingual/bicultural Spanish is preferred.  NJ Driver License in good standing and a criminal background check is required for this position.

TITLE: Outreach Director

REPORTING FUNCTION: Executive Director

DESCRIPTION:  

Responsible for overall management and operation of the outreach program.  This involves implementing a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault outreach counseling program as funded by the agency.  Supervise all counselors, legal advocates, community educator, and interns to insure follow-through in providing outstanding direct services to outreach clients and support to volunteers.  Be responsible for on-call schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises all outreach staff and interns. 
  • Facilitates bi-weekly case management meetings with staff. 
  • Provides weekly individual supervision meetings.
  • Manages staff services, programs, and daily operations of the outreach department.
  • Completes all staff evaluations for direct reports and updates job descriptions for positions supervised as necessary. 
  • Develops/updates outreach program policies and procedures for approval by executive director and, when necessary, the Board of Trustees.
  • Attends all staff meetings, facilitates monthly outreach team meetings, and attends joint Shelter/Outreach Director meetings.
  • Insures that outreach client files are maintained according to agency policies and grant standards. 
  • Completes monthly statistics and reports as required by the agency, other funding agencies, and regulatory bodies and provides to executive director.
  • Reviews levels of service statistics periodically to determine environmental factors, trends, gaps in service, and impacts on victims and their needs.  Based on statistical analysis works with staff to develop performance improvement plans to impact client services.  Reviews all performance improvement plans with executive director and management team and prepares quarterly reports for the Board of Trustees.
  • Helps identify and support fundraising activities as appropriate.
  • Performs all other related duties as required.
  • Attends NJCASA meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintains a counseling caseload of up to eight clients, facilitates one weekly support group, provides emergency crisis intervention counseling as necessary, and is available as a resource to staff to provide additional client services and referrals.
  • Assists in providing portions of the mandated 72-hour staff/volunteer training.
  • Networks with other agencies and network to identify additional needs, develop new programs, and resolve issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in human services or counseling, MSW preferred.  At least 3 years counseling experience required.  At least 2 years supervision experience in direct and indirect services and management/administrative experience preferred.  Excellent communications and public speaking skills.  72 hours of domestic violence sexual assault training to be completed in the first two weeks of employment.

Job Description
The Division of Injury and Violence Prevention in the Office of Family Health services is seeking to fill a position with multiple responsibilities including: managing a statewide sexual violence prevention education grant program; planning and implementing education and behavior change strategies in conjunction with key stakeholders; providing statewide training, education and information on best-practices related to the primary prevention of sexual violence (SV); participating on state task forces and advisory groups related to violence prevention; overseeing contracting of community education services through local providers; overseeing initiatives aimed at engaging men in preventing violence against women; supervising two staff; managing an annual budget in excess of $700,000; and applying for and managing new grant programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of prevention, public health, social marketing, health education and behavior change; experience in prevention, especially violence prevention; policy and program development/evaluation; networking and coalition building; translation of research into practice; and budget and personnel management. Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, writing, public speaking and listening); analytical skills, and organization skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and programs are required. Full working knowledge of MS-Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.  

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in public health or health promotion is preferred.

Special Requirements: Extensive statewide travel may be involved. Requires a driver's license and the ability to travel across Virginia.
